Executive Network Member Since (Year): 2018

Newly-Landed Position & Company: Western Regional Sales Manager, Pactiv

Prior to landing your new position, were you currently working or in-transition? I was in transition prior to joining Pactiv.

How did you get connected to the company where you landed your new role? Pactiv was one of my targeted employers in the packaging space and I got connected through LinkedIn.

In your estimation, what allowed you to stand-out during the interview process? Chris Lord (who facilitates one of the McDermott & Bull Executive Network groups) was instrumental in helping me differentiate.  He helped me get out of my head, speak from the heart and articulate WHY I wanted to work for Pactiv and HOW I can help them WIN.

Did you encounter any challenges while being vetted for this new position?  If so, how did you overcome them? I did not have any extraordinary challenges.  I had two phone interviews and two “live” interviews.  I just tried to be short, concise and consistent with my messaging of how I can help my employer to win in the market.

If you could give an in-transition executive any piece of advice, what would it be? My advice to in-transition executives is:

  • Get coaching from Chris Lord or Victor Dominguez.  They’re phenomenal.
  • Don’t shotgun it.  Get very targeted with who you want to work for…and network, network.
  • Your competition is going to talk about leadership competencies.  Differentiate yourself by speaking from the heart and helping your prospective employer understand how you can help them win, and why you want to work for them.  Get so passionate that you need to apologize for being so excited!

Bonus Question: What events and/or resources offered by the Executive Network have helped enhance your career? The networking meetings facilitated by McDermott & Bull helped me understand how to network, market myself and be patient and positive during my transition.  I also found CareerArc to be beneficial for resume design and interview prep.
