Newly-Landed Position + Company: Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Alpine Building Maintenance
Prior to landing your new position, were you currently working or in transition? I was in transition.
How did you get connected to the company where you landed your new role? I had a prior relationship with an executive search partner at McDermott + Bull and he had a relationship with Alpine Building Maintenance. When Alpine started their search for this job vacancy, the partner thought of me and reached out.
What allowed you to stand out during the interview process? I prepared for the interviews by researching the interviewers, owners, company, and competitors. I was able to highlight how my experience matched what they were seeking in this role.
If you could give an in-transition executive any piece of advice, what would it be? First, leverage your network. You never know who will have a lead on an opportunity. Second, don’t discount roles that are at a lower level than you’d wish for. The role might morph into something bigger as you go through the process. In my case, the role was posted as a Director but they quickly changed it to Senior Vice President when they saw the experience and capabilities I could offer. Lastly, don’t feel discouraged during your search. It is important to stay positive and optimistic during every interview, because hiring managers can pick up on a negative spirit and will pass on candidates who seem dejected.
