Newly-Landed Position + Company: Chief Operating Officer, Hygieia

Prior to landing your new position, were you currently working or in transition? I was consulting with clients in healthcare, technology, and professional services.

How did you get connected to the company where you landed your new role? When starting my consulting company, I used LinkedIn to network and publish articles to raise my profile. One of the people who commented had an interesting profile, so I suggested we get coffee. We later collaborated on a project and kept bumping into each other at healthcare events. He knows Hygieia’s CEO, and when he got an email from the recruiter asking for referrals for the role, he thought of me.

What allowed you to stand out during the interview process? I immediately started using my network to find out more about the leadership team. I learned a lot about the company and the competitive landscape. I had a lot of support from my network, and those who had direct connections to the company contacted the team on my behalf.

If you could give an in-transition executive any piece of advice, what would it be? Network. I didn’t approach it with a “give to get” perspective and got a lot of satisfaction from helping where I could, but it paid off for me.

What events and/or resources offered by the Executive Network have helped enhance your career? I joined the Executive Network while the events went virtual, and this allowed me to grow my connections in ways that would never have been possible before. Tom Oser ran some great sessions – the “branding and stories” event transformed how I presented my experience. It enabled me to better tailor my responses to the audience and made it fun.
