Newly-Landed Position + Company: Chief Operating Officer, Hothead Games Inc.

Prior to landing your new position, were you currently working or in transition? I was in transition.

How did you get connected to the company where you landed your new role? My CEO from a previous company contacted me to work on a short-term contract with the company. After the contract ended, a full-time offer was given to me for the position.

What allowed you to stand out during the interview process? I believe my 12 of years prior experience working directly with my prior CEO was what kept me top of mind for this position.

Did you encounter any challenges while being vetted for this new position? Fortunately, I didn’t encounter any significant challenges with acquiring this position. It felt like a very natural next step due to my prior experience.

If you could give an in-transition executive any piece of advice, what would it be? Use your network! In particular, reach out to previous top-level managers and offer your services on contract. It’s not really a cold call, since you know your contact well and you are offering something of value. You never know what unadvertised opportunity you will discover.

What events and/or resources offered by the Executive Network have helped enhance your career? Attending Roundtables, sharing in-transition experiences with other executives, and overhauling my LinkedIn profile with great advice. Also, the free one-on-one coaching. McDermott +Bull is a great organization and really stands out! I will remember them as a resource in my new role.
